Site Editor Openings

Hello all! As Dave announced a few weeks ago, we're now opening up applications for anyone interested in joining the site editor group. You will have to fill out the following application and send it in a PM to me, Aliensvortex. All applications will be posted in a private site editor forum, and we will then choose site editors based on your applications and your past activity in the forums.

To be eligible for this position, you need to have been a member at the Global-RS forums for more than one month (registered before June 09).

What area of our knowledge base are you most interested in? (IE items, monsters, guides etc)

If you were to be given access to edit only certain parts of the site (such as only one of the databases, quest guides or any other section), what part of the site would you choose?

Please note that you do not need to know HTML to edit the site, although it would be an advantage. Being familiar with image editing software (knowing how to crop/resize pictures, remove background from item/monster pictures etc) is also an advantage, but not required.

We will keep all applicants updated through private messages in the forums.

Staff Changes & Opportunities

Today we are making a few major changes to our staff. They are as follows:

Lil McGinley has been promoted from Senior Moderator to Administrator because of his long time dedication and hard work with Global-RS.

Hitman has been promoted from Moderator to Senior Moderator because he has proven himself as an excellent moderator and community leader.

Today we are also welcoming two new moderators to our team, Pineapple and Slim50! These two members have been picked by our current staff based on their activity and display of maturity around the community. Congratulations guys.

We are also adding a few new members to the Honored Members group: These members are Illicit_rage, Rager, and Balatis.

In other news, within the next few weeks there will be a lot of openings within the site editor group. We feel that the current site editor group is under staffed, so we are opening up applications for anyone interested to join the group. Keep your eyes open for more on this soon! This will be a fun and enjoyable way to become more involved in keeping our site's content accurate and up to date.

New forum skin: Black Pearl

Hello all! We've just added a new forum skin, Black Pearl. This is a dark skin with light text, and is completely different from our two other skins, "Global RuneScape" and "proSilver".

You can change your default skin by going to your User Control Panel » Board Preferences.

Please note that this skin will not be displayed properly if you are using an obsolete browser such as Internet Explorer 6.

New Moderator: Tim

Due to timezone conflicts, it was apparent that a new moderator would help in covering the boards during off hours for the current staff. Tim has been selected to be the next global moderator because of his dedication and hard work for the site, and also he fills in a timezone gap to help keep the boards cleaner during the off hours for the rest of the staff.

Submission points, profile layout, rank images and more!

Hello all! We've just added some new features and changed a lot of the existing ones:

Submission points
A new point system has been implemented. Whenever you submit something that gets added to the site, a site editor will have the possibility to give you a certain number of points for that submission. Larger submissions that take more time to make will give you more points than smaller submissions.

You will not be able to see exactly how many points you have, but awards are automatically given to people with many points. The award will be displayed underneath your name in posts and your profile as a bronze star, silver star or gold star, depending on how many points you have.

In other words, if you submit a lot, you will get a shiny star underneath your name for everyone to see, and users with many points will obviously have a higher chance of becoming a site editor!

Profile layout and rank images
We've made several changes to the layout of a user's profile next to a post:

Next to the user's name, you will now see a small green or gray icon showing if the user is online or offline, respectively.
We now have new, improved rank images. There is now an unique image for bronze pages, iron squires and all the other ranks, and the images for special ranks such as moderators and site editors have a colour matching the rank's colour.
A user's RuneScape name and status is now displayed on the post pages too! You don't have to go to the profile to check this information anymore. The RuneScape name also links to the forum hiscore, which will display the user's stats.
And obviously, you'll see a star if the user is a good submitter!

Posting page changes
There have been made some changes to the posting layout too. When replying to a topic, the subject/description field is now hidden. You will only see these fields when posting/editing a topic (i.e. the first post in a topic). Several other smaller changes have been made, such as increased spacing between the smilies.

Other changes
The post time has been moved from the bottom right corner to the upper right corner of a post. The upper right corner used to contain the post subject, but since the subject will only be "Re: Topic subject", this didn't serve any purpose.

Lastly, for those of you who have a special rank and a coloured name, you will now see your name in the same colour as next to your posts at the top of the forum.

Forum and group changes

Hello all. We've done some changes to keep the forums clean and updated:

Marketplace reorganization
Since the Grand Exchange was introduced last year, the forum has become much less active than it used to be. Therefore, we decided that there was no need to keep all the categories that were made prior to the GE. We've now removed all the categories in the marketplace forum, and replaced them with 3 new sub-forums:

Removal of inactive groups
Also, we've discontinued the Herald editor and Event manager groups, as they have both been inactive for many months. However, remember that the Herald is still up, and we encourage people to submit stories. Both groups may return in the future if there is enough interest for it.

Congratulations to New Honored Members

Congratulations to Zarzarx1, Night_elf45 and Shane The Pain for being selected as the first Honored Member group of 2009! They have shown that they are here to help GRS grow by being active, writing guides and helping with the overall life of the forums. I hope that other will follow in their footsteps and help GRS grow into the best Runescape fan site out there!

Concerning All Submissions

Hello all! I doubt anyone has noticed, but the Quest Guides / Skill Guides forum, the Atlas forum, the Other Submissions forum, and the Database Submissions forums have all been cleaned out and re-modeled. I have been here for about two years, and I have never seen the submissions forums organized to this extent before. We are calling upon the community to help us keep them organized by:

1) Only making new threads in these forums if they are guides or database submissions that you wish to be added to the main site. Suggestions of how to make the site better do not belong in this forum (please post suggestions in the suggestions forum.)
2) Going back to guides that you or someone else started several months (or years ) ago and finishing them. There is at least a dozen unfinished items in each of the forums listed above. Imagine if we got all of these unfinished submissions finished and added! Thats 40 new guides/database entries for GRS.

Also, please remember that any images which are to be accepted should be saved in PNG mode (NOT JPEG!!! ) and preferebly be taken in high-def.

There are 5 days left in 2008. We, as the GRS staff, hope that 2009 will bring a year of growth for the GRS helpsite, unmatched by any previous years. Of course, the rest is up to you, the GRS member, regardless of your forum rank or which usergroups you are in. Lets make GRS a quality Runescape website, together.

Event #14 - Barbarian Assault

This event will be taking place on Saturday, November 8th. It will take place at 3 P.M EDT ( If you're unsure what this time is please click here

The Armor/Weapons is optional, although it is recommended. You can easily get here by teleporting to Barbarian Outpost by using a charged Games Necklace. The world is 6 which is one of the Official Barbarian Assault worlds. The clan chat to join is "grs_chat".

NOTE: I'm sorry to those who are f2p, next week's Event will be f2p!

Also, I will not be able to attend this Event. I'm sorry. But we do have back-up, so the Event will go on

Event #13 - Duel Arena! {P2P}

To clear things up, Events are now once every 2 weeks, that's why there was no Event last week.

Event #13 - Duel Arena!

This will be a member's only event, sorry for the free players. Next Event will be f2p. Once again, this Event will be in World 64. 3 P.M EDT If you're unsure when this is, PLEASE click here

This Event is for fun, not for Staking. If you really want to stake, that's fine, as long as the other player agrees. We'll be meeting at the Duel Arena at the designated time, and we'll all grab a partner and start dueling! Once your fight is over, start a duel with another Member of GRS. Bring your favorite weapons, or your worst, for fun

What you bring is up to you. Weapons and Armor is optional, but suggested. Remember, the Duel Arena is a SAFE competition Meaning you will not lose your items if you lose a duel.

Event #12 - Double Event!

Event # 12 - Double Event!

Hello everybody, this will be the first Event since May. This Event will occur on Saturday October 11th, 2008. We'll be having 2 events - 1 P2P, and one F2P. They will be occurring at the same time. They will occur 3 P.M EDT, if your unsure what time that is in your timezone, please look here.

The P2P Event will be Pest Control. The World will be 64, and the clan chat will be " grs chat " . You must have a combat level of 40 or higher to participate in this event, because of the requirements of this mini-game. If you're not, feel free to go to the F2P Event Also, if you don't want to do Pest Control, feel free to go to the F2P event. Combat Equipment is highly recommended

The F2P Event will be Bounty Hunter. The world will be 81, a common F2P Bounty Hunter world. The clan chat to join will also be "grs chat " so we can all share what's going on between the 2 events What you bring is optional, bring some armor, but please note that you could die and lose all your belongings. If you do die, don't expect someone to get your stuff back Who you kill is optional, but if someone from GRS doesn't want to be killed, please don't kill them.

Note: If I'm unable to make it, please go on with the Event. Just because I can't make it or Wackycats can't make it, doesn't mean it will be canceled

Remember to bring your friends, and your friend's friends, and your cousins, and your 2nd cousins twice removed . Just bring everyone you know. The more, the merrier!

Global RuneScape Team Changes

In light of the current events, we have decided it was in our best interest to make a few changes to the Global-Rs team.

First of all, we would like to welcome our newest moderator Hitman. Hitman was chosen as mod by 100% approval rate of all the current team members. He is an active member, who has displayed that he knows the rules and cares about keeping the forums clean from any misbehavior. Congratulations to Hitman!

Secondly, we are going to be making a change with the Events team. As you may have noticed, both members of the Events Team are inactive, and have not planned any events lately. Nightmare has come forward and offered to lead the Events Team to get some events started up once again. So, as of right now, Nightmare has been instated as the head of Events Team, and the two older members, Syntax Error and Death, have been moved to retired staff.

If anyone would like to join the Events Team to assist Nightmare, please contact him directly.

I'm sure many of you have already noticed that a lot of topics are missing from the forum. Do not worry, they will be back within the next few days. All of the topics are safe and will be back soon.

A more detailed announcement of what happened and why will be released as soon as everything is back to normal.

Just to answer the big question shortly, one of our own staff members, [M]ike, deleted thousands of threads, which can all be restored. As of right now, he is no longer a part of our staff, and he is banned until further notice.

Our staff would like to apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. We assure you this situation will be fixed as soon as possible and that Mike will receive the proper punishment for his childish and immature actions.

Major Forum Changes

Hello all! Due to recent feedback from our members, we've decided to make several changes to the forum hierarchy. Starting from the top of the forum list, the changes are as follows:

Goals & Achievments is now a separate forum underneath General, and not a sub-forum as it used to be. Since this forum was much more used than many of the other forums, we felt that it shouldn't be hidden in another forum. The Marketplace has been moved to the bottom of the list of RuneScape forums. After the release of the Grand Exchange, the Marketplace has been much less inactive since most trades can be quickly done through the GE. We have more plans for the Marketplace in the future, but it will not be completely removed.

PvP Discussion has been renamed to PvP Discussion, Clans & Events. The Clans forum is now the Clan recruitment & events forum, and has been placed as a sub-forum of PvP Discussion, Clans & Events.

Stories and Poems has been moved from the RuneScape category to the Miscellaneous category. Many members wanted to post stories that were unrelated to RuneScape, but since the forum was originally intended as a RuneScape-related forum, people were confused as to whether they should post their stories in Off-Topic or Stories and Poems. Hopefully

The Support and Submissions categories have been merged into a Global-RS Feedback category. In this category, we also removed Other Global RuneScape Sections and its subforums since the Topsites and Chat have been gone for a while, and the Herald forum was inactive.

The Tutorials forum has also been removed due to inactivity, but all its topics have been moved to Tech Discussion or Non-RS Graphics forums. You can of course still post tutorials - if you have a programming or computer tutorial, post it in Tech Discussion, and if you want to post a graphics tutorial, post it in the Non-RS graphics forum.

Today we have added a much wanted forum for playing forum games. This forum is located as a sub forum in the Off Topic section. Please remember that post count has been disabled in this forum due to the fact that there will be many 1 word posts and spam in this forum.

Posting changes

Hello all! It has been a long time since we've changed anything in the forums, but today, we've made two changes to the posting system.

Firstly, there is now a "quick reply" button next to the reply button at the bottom of every topic, which will display a simple form you can use to post a reply without loading a separate page. It does not contain any of the advanced features - if you want to see smilies, BBCodes, attachments etc, you have to load the posting page as before (clicking "Preview" in the quick reply will also take you to the full posting page). However, you can use the smilies and BBCodes in the quick reply field if you remember them - there just won't be any buttons.

The second change is a smaller one - when you post something, you will be taken directly to your post instead of the confirmation screen you used to see (which had a "click here to continue" link).

That's all for now, and remember, if there are any new features or changes you would like to see, feel free to make a suggestion!

GRS Event #11, May 10 2008

We will all be meeting at Ardougne south bank before heading over to the agility arena. There is no specific agility level require although 40+ is reccomended. If you don't have any of the items reccomended to bring then it's best to wear nothing.The person with the most tickets at the end of the event gets a special nomination and a whopping 30k from the Events Leader!

GRS Event #10, May 3 2008

This event starts at 8:00 pm gmt, if you are unsure of what that would be in your timezone, then click here.

Clan wars is a safe minigame, so bring your best stuff! There's a bank nearby at bounty hunter, so you can always walk there with no items, withdraw your items, and take a short walk to clan wars, if you're afraid that a revenant might get you on the way. Members may want to use a games necklace to teleport to bounty hunter and then hop to a free world, to save some time.

Don't forget to buy a team 26 cape from Richard, who is just north of Edgeville.

Items to bring along:

Your best armor and weapon

Team 26 Cape

Grs Event #9, April 26 2008

Farmer Blinkin has had an increase in rabbits, and has contacted Global Runescape in hopes of getting support at his farm for at least a day. Are you up for the challenge? (and the farming experience)

Vinesweeper can be traveled to using any farming leprechaun in Runescape. I would suggest that you use the tree farming patch in Falador, since the bank is right nearby. Another good location would be the patch in Catherby.

Items to Bring

*Money is used to purchase a few ogleroots and flags. Flags cost either 10 points or 500 gold each to get back. Using gold saves time, but 10 points is cheaper.
