Recent Spamming Here at GRS

Hello everyone. As you may have noticed, unless you've been hiding under a rock for the past week or two, we've been the target of constant spam and just general rule breaking by random accounts and bots. I assure you we're working on it and please if you see something report it.

DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS THESE SPAMMERS POST!

I'd like to reiterate that we here as GRS do not advocate rule breaking and that despite this, we are a legitimate Jagex affiliated fan site. We will work vigilantly to fix the recent issues appearing on the forums. Thank you all for reporting and keeping with us here.

Warning: Phishing Scam

Dear Members,

Recently we have been receiving reports from some of our members indicating that someone has been creating throw-away accounts on here to send people PM's. These PM's look something like this:

GR is one of those that can win WITH your help!!
The poll ends tomorow morning or afternoon, so there would be no cheating.
Please hurry and vote for GR (or any other clan)!!!

Please vote its very important.

Please do not go to this site, although the site doesn't appear to have any key-loggers or anything of the sort, the coding makes the site look exactly like runescape down to very small details. I cannot stress this enough, do not put your log in information into this site. To show you the reason it could fool you and why you shouldn't go to it:

Notice at the bottom it says not to put your info into anything that doesn't expressly say Jagex or Runescape trusted...And yet, it says nothing of the sort in the actual address bar. Again, only trust Jagex supported/run websites with your information.

If anybody else receives one of these PM's please forward them to and Admin or Mod so that we can take action against the account. Thanks for your time and "Play On".

Skill Week Event

Our skill week event is going to begin on Wednesday August 25, 2010 at 12:00 pm US Eastern Time and will end on Tuesday August 31, 2010 at 12:00 am US Eastern Time.

The skill for this week's event is: FISHING

Sign ups will be held in this thread. Please ONLY respond to this thread if you are signing up, and in your post say something along the lines of Ex. "Sign Dave up" or "Dave will be taking part in the event" etc... and use your own name obviously.

Forum Change and Increased Video Sizes

Hello all! We've changed the name of our old Hellos & Goodbyes forum to Introductions. This means that you won't be able to post about leaving (either permanently or temporarily) any more. We've done this change because posts by newcomers that say hello got lost in the clutter of people ranting and leaving. Therefore, the forum is now only an introduction forum. Leaving posts have now been removed from the forum, but you will not lose post count for those posts.

We've also increased the size of YouTube videos that are posted on the forums, so that they'll take up almost the whole width of the forums, so that you can view them at higher resolutions such as 480p directly in the forums. We've also enabled the full screen button in embedded videos.

To embed a YouTube video in a forum post, use the [youtube] BBCode. Example:

Content Team Applications

Hello all!

First, we've renamed the Site Editor group to Content Team. This is a name we feel fits better with what the team is doing - content team members are expected to ensure that content is kept up to date, and they are also the ones responsible for new content being added regularly.

We are now opening applications to the content team! Anyone who has registered before this post was created are eligible to apply. Every application will be considered regardless of the user's status or previous history at GRS or other websites. If you are interested in applying, please take some time to fill out the application.

We are looking for people who are genuinely interested in helping out with content at GRS, so there will be a short "trial" period where successful applicants get full access to the site editing tools and the user will be expected to make edits and add content. People who make few additions within the trial period, or for some other reason are do not meet our expectations, will be removed from the team and will have to wait until next time we open applications to re-apply.

Click here to apply! Remember that your application may be successful even if you do not fill every field, so only write something where you actually have something you wish to say.

Applications will be open for 2 weeks. We will also review applications during those two weeks, so if you apply early, we may even add you to the team before the application period is over!

If you have any questions related to the applications or the content team position, feel free to ask in this topic or in a private message to me.

View New Posts, Unanswered Posts, Active Topics

Hello all! Due to popular demand, we've now added back the links to "View new posts", "view unanswered posts" and "view active topics" to the header so that the links will now be displayed on every page in the forums.

These links used to be accessible with every page, but with the redesign they only became visible on the front page. This only affected the new skin. However, several users asked to get them back in the header with the new skin so that you won't have to go to the forum index to view these links.

We hope you like the changes. Enjoy!

Forum Rule Changes

Hello all! We've decided to make 2 changes to our forum rules.

Firstly, we've removed the 2 weeks bumping rule altogether. This means that we will not lock old topics just because they're more than 2 weeks old anymore. We hope this will encourage discussions in topics that are still interesting or relevant even though they were posted a long time ago. We've decided to keep a two week bumping rule in the marketplace forums, where we strongly discourage users to bump old topics (but this will now be decided on a case by case basis).

Secondly, we've changed our name change rule. While we previously declined requests for major name changes, we're now allowing people to have their names changed. To enquire about name changes, or to request a name change, please send a personal message to an administrator. Administrators will generally not change a user's name more than once, so please choose wisely. Exceptions can be made if a good reason is provided. You can see whether a person has had the name changed and what the old name was by visiting that person's profile.

A New Chance

Hello all! We've decided to do a mass forum unbanning - and we've completely clear our ban lists, including accounts/username bans and IP bans, with no exceptions. Many of the banned accounts were spammers and scammers who are unlikely to return even if they're unbanned (and if they do, the likely have a new IP address and can therefore easily re-register). However, we believe that there were many people who might not have deserved a permanent ban, and that they should be given a new chance. As a way to show you that we do not wish to dwell on the past, we've therefore decided to clear all our ban lists.

Please note that this is a one time deal and not something we will be doing again in the future, so permanent bans given after today should still be considered permanent!

Also, remember that if you see someone breaking the rules, don't reply to the post, but report it so a moderator can take care of it. Please note that we will be closely watching accounts of people who have been causing trouble in the past, but we believe that this will not be a large problem.

To people who may return as a consequence of the unbanning: Welcome back, and remember to read our forum rules here!

New skin & limits on signature sizes

With the redesign of the site, there is now a new standard forum skin. The new forum skin is significantly different from the old skin, and it has been based on a different standard skin from phpBB, so we will not re-use graphics from the old skin. Forum icons and other images may soon be replaced with something that matches the rest of the design in a better way. Everyone has been switched to the new skin. If you prefer the old skin, you can change back to the old skin in your user control panel which is now called "Global RuneScape Classic". The Black Pearl skin is still available if you prefer to use a darker skin. This will only affect the forum, and you will not be able to change back to the old design on the main site.

We have also introduced a hard limit on signature sizes. All images that are larger than the maximum allowed sizes will now be automatically resized. If the whole signature is higher than the maximum allowed height (300px), it will now simply be cut off at 300 pixels.

If you have any suggestions or find any bugs or anything that doesn't look quite right, please let me know!

Forum code updates & performance improvements

Hello all! You may have noticed that the front page of the forums has been quite slow for a while. We've now changed the code and made it significantly faster, so you will hopefully notice that the forum loads much faster than before. Please let us know if you experience any problems.

On a side note, I know I've been somewhat inactive lately, but stay tuned as there will be some pretty big changes to GRS soon!

Display Names Error

Attention:

To all those who did the recent "Display Names" change....you must change your RS name on this site to the new display name for them to show up in the Highscores. I just realized that a majority of us (all the ones who have changed your names) have disappeared from the HS list and also a majority of the skill bars are out of date now as well.

To do this, you must go to the:
1) 'User Control Panel'
2) 'Profile'
3) 'Runescape Username'

Change the name to your new display name, you must also do this in the coding for all stat bars for them to not read 0% on everything.

Old way with original name:

Change the username to the new display name to get:

A Quick Reminder

This is just a little reminder to everyone here that visits Global-rs.com. Seems there's been bit of a spike in rule breakers coming to our forums. Please remember ALL JAGEX RULES APPLY! We don't tolerate account traders, hackers, or any of the rest of their sort. This goes for the forums, the IRC, and even the Cc in-game.

If you happen to come across a post of any sort that looks suspicious, report it and please don't click any links that may have shown up. The staff are working hard to keep these rule breakers at bay, but regardless some manage to slip in under our noses.

Just remember to be aware of what you're doing on here and everywhere on the internet. Security is key!

Pineapple

Hey GRS,

This post comes with some sadness. Pineapple has decided to step down from being a Moderator and one of GRS's best Site Editors. I can assure you that this is a personal choice made by Pineapple and not a demotion. He is not leaving GRS; he has simply chosen to resign from his positions here at Global Runescape for personal reasons. He will continue as a Retired Staff member and is welcome back as a Site Editor anytime.
