It has the same slash and strength bonus as an Abyssal whip. Its speed is also the same as the whip, making it the fastest two-handed sword. Despite costing roughly six times more, many players use it as an alternative to the whip, since it can be used to train strength aswell. However, as a two-handed weapon it is not possible to use a shield or defender with the sword.
The sword has a special attack, Saradomin's Lightning, which inflicts 5-25 magic-based damage in the form of a lightning bolt. It has a 100% drain and gives magic experience instead of melee.
It is not one of the 4 godswords; there is a different Saradomin godsword.
