08-May-2008 – Perils of Ice Mountain Quest Guide

Comment this update (7 comments)

Hello all! We've just added a guide for the latest quest in RuneScape, Perils of Ice Mountain. Many thanks to Syntax Error for this great guide!

The dwarves of the Dwarven Mine have built the latest marvel of dwarven engineering: a machine to automatically make pickaxes for the many miners. In order to supply energy for this machine, they have commissioned a new power station on the slopes of Ice Mountain.

Projects of this scale are never without their problems, though. A hapless dwarf delivering resources to the power station has lost part of his delivery and any adventurer who helps him is bound to find more problems to solve.

Other news
When I wrote the Herald article "A Developer's View" a few weeks ago, I said that one of the things that made me work on a new code was the need for a better way to administrate the site. I've been working on this lately, and most of the core code of it has been done. Therefore, I've decided that it's time to start giving some users access to it - so they'll be able to edit the site. Syntax Error, who wrote the quest guide announced in this post, is the first user to get access to the control panel. He can only add and edit quest guides at the moment, but as bugs are fixed in other sections, he will get access to more areas of the administration panel, thus being the first one to become a site editor since [M]ike was promoted one year ago.

Obviously, as development continues, more people will eventually get access to it, which hopefully should make updates happen at a faster rate than before. To start with I will pick a few forum members based on their past contributions to the site, but as the system gets developed there might be other ways to show your interest, such as application forms or polls in a forum section for site editors. We will post more about this in the future, so be sure to stay tuned! Also, keep in mind that only forum members will have the ability to become site editors, and members with many good submissions will obviously have higher chances of becoming site editors.

That's all for now, enjoy!

03-May-2008 – Grand Exchange synchronization

Comment this update (11 comments)

Hello all! When the Grand Exchange price database was released a few weeks ago, it also gave us the possibility to automatically update any item's Grand Exchange values from the RuneScape website. So we decided to make a feature that did exactly that, so all the prices in the item database are now retrieved from the Grand Exchange. The prices will automatically be updated once a day, but it is also possible to update the market values manually by clicking the small update icon (Image) next to the item's values when you are viewing an item. We may add a chart that shows the items' price history, but we currently don't have enough data to do so at the moment.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome. If there is an item that seems to be retrieving the wrong information (which means that it looks up the wrong item in the Grand Exchange), please let us know so we can fix it. That's all for now, enjoy!

23-Apr-2008 – Legacy of Seergaze Quest Guide

Comment this update (10 comments)

Hello all! We've released the Legacy of Seergaze quest guide! Many thanks to Death for this great guide! Feel free to post your feedback and comments on this guide.

Mercenaries make their way into the rotten swamps of Morytania from Paterdomus to the front-lines at Burgh de Rott. The Vyrewatch continue to draw blood tithes from the pitiful citizens of Meiyerditch, the great ghetto-city of the Sanguinesti region, its weakened citizens growing fewer in number every day. The vampyres are getting more tithes from somewhere, but how long before House Drakan settles its eye upon Misthalin and the lands to the west?

Hello all! It's time for a new article in the Global RuneScape Herald. After you've read the article, we invite you to post your thoughts and comments in this topic.

On a side note, this article is actually the 50th article published in the Herald! Thanks to everybody who has contributed in the past, and remember that we accept Herald submissions from any registered member of the forums!

24-Mar-2008 – Updates, updates, updates...

Comment this update (33 comments)

Hello all! A few days ago, on March 20th, Global RuneScape saw its third anniversary. In 2006 and 2007 we made some major updates to the site for its birthday, but this year's update was so big that we had to delay it a few days.

Firstly, we've moved the site to a new server. Our old host told us that the site's resource usage was too high, and due to the constant growth of the site, we decided that it was time for us to move on from a shared server to a private server. Some of you might have been experiencing long load times recently, especially in the forums. These issues should be fixed.

There has been a major update in the site backend; the whole system Global RuneScape runs on has been completely rewritten from scratch. This gives us much more flexibility, and you may notice that the whole site is integrated with the forums. When you are logged on in the forums, it will show your status and number of private messages in the header. That means no more login boxes when you're already logged in! If there's something else you would like to see in the header, feel free to let us know! A screenshot posted a few weeks ago showed a "settings" button in the new header. We didn't have time to add the functionality we had planned there, so it will be added later.

With this update, we will also look for more site editors! We have a new control panel for the site editors which will give them the ability to change all guides, database entries, images and calculators. We will make a separate announcement for this in the future, so be sure to check the site news here regularly!

New tools
As mentioned in the Herald article I posted a few weeks ago, there is a new set of calculators, including a new combat calculator!

We also have added forum hiscores. All members of the Global RuneScape forums with more than 10 posts will be listed here. You also need to set a valid RuneScape name in your profile, which can be done in your User Control Panel.

Speaking of hiscores, we have another new tool, the hiscore history! Every time you enter your name in one of the (new!) calculators or use the hiscore lookup feature somewhere on the site, the stats will be saved in the database. You can then view your progress in the hiscore history tool. The forum hiscores will be updated once a day, so one entry will be added every day in the hiscore history for all users listed in the forum hiscores.

We've also added the the ability to search the site using the search box in the header. We also have new RSS news feeds that can be viewed by clicking the RSS icon (an orange icon with rounded corners) in your web browser (not supported by older browsers such as Internet Explorer 6 or Firefox 1.5).

We would really like to get some feedback and suggestions, because there is certainly room for improvement. We have a lot of things we'd like to change, so you could call this new backend a beta, since it's not really finished. If you see any bugs, or something you really don't like, then let us know!

That's all for now. Enjoy!

15-Mar-2008 – Kennith's Concerns Quest Guide

Comment this update (0 comments)

Hello all! A quest guide for the latest quest in RuneScape, Kennith's Concerns, has just been added! Many thanks to Syntax Error and Death for this great guide!

As ever, there are strange occurrences afoot in the sea slug-riddled town of Witchaven. Kennith, the child rescued at the end of the Sea Slug quest, is convinced that the usually peaceful (albeit gastropod-possessed) locals are up to no good in the caverns under the village and asks players to investigate. Beware: not everything is quite what it seems.

Comment this update (6 comments)

Hello all! It's Sunday again, and time for the weekly Herald article. This week's article is the only article written by myself, and takes you "behind the scenes" and shows what we've actually been doing at Global RuneScape recently - from a developer's point of view. 23-Feb-2008 – Catapult Construction quest guide!

Comment this update (0 comments)

Hello all,
Today we've added a guide for RuneScape's latest quest, Catapult Construction. Many thanks to Jacksai for this great guide!

Things are not going well for the Catapult Guard at the Tyras Camp. Already unpopular with his comrades after his security lapses, he's now neglected the catapult and allowed the damp of the forests of Isafdar to seep in and rot the frame. General Hining is furious, the replacement catapult parts haven't arrived and the rookie catapult engineer has gone missing.

It's a good thing, then, that a bold adventurer with your knowledge of Construction is in the area. Of course, this will take more effort than forming furniture - catapults are complicated pieces of equipment - ensuring that this mission will mean your exertions will be mental as much as physical.

17-Feb-2008 – Herald: Runescape University

Comment this update (7 comments)

Hello all! It's Sunday again, and time for a new Herald. This week's article, entitled RuneScape University, is written by Mangleman and discusses the educational benefits of RuneScape. The average RuneScape player is quite young, and the players' parents often do not know what their children are doing in front of their computer screens. If you are one of RuneScape young players, you might even want to show this article to your parents! After you've read this article, we invite you comment the article in this topic - maybe you want to add something that the article did not include?

Other news
You might have noticed a significant downtime this week. Earlier this week, all pages on global-rs.com (the forums are located at global-rs.net) were down. This was caused by an error by our web host and was beyond our control, and we had to contact our host and wait for them to restore the site. Today, the forums (global-rs.net) were down for about six hours. A part of the forum database had crashed and we were unable to repair it. These two downtimes were unrelated, but combined, the site has been down for nearly 18 hours this week. We apologize for any issues this may have caused for our visitors.

29-Jan-2008 – Remember we accept Herald submissions

Comment this update (4 comments)

Many people enjoyed reading Keith Morrison's take on the recent changes to Runescape. All Keith had to do was submit his article and it was selected to be published! That means they you too can have your name on the front page, and can contribute to our community. It is a great way to make a name for yourself on this website and is a great way to have your voice be heard.

Please keep submissions above 500 words and try to give some new ideas or insight. If your story is not accepted I will give you detailed information on the reason why and what you could do in the future to increase your chances.

You can PM your submissions directly to me, but any member of Herald staff is ok.

If you want to know more about Slayerbelle and how she managed to do this, be sure that you don't miss this week's Herald article!

Comment this update (10 comments)

Hello all! Contrary to what the title of this news may suggest, there has been no graphical update in our Herald. However, Tim has written an article about Graphic Updates in RuneScape - how do they affect the game, and what are the positive and negative sides of the graphic updates in RuneScape? After you've read this week's article, feel free to post your comments and thoughts in this topic.

In other news, new users have been unable to register in our forums between November 8th and 28th - they couldn't get past the terms agreement page and no error was shown. Since the admins obviously don't try to register every day and nobody contacted us letting us know, we didn't discover this bug before a whooping 20 days had passed! We're really sorry for this. The bug was fixed on the 28th you should now be able to register if you haven't done so yet.

That's all for now. Enjoy!

17-Nov-2007 – Item and Monster Database Updates

Comment this update (2 comments)

Hello all! We've made some small, yet useful updates to the monster and item database. In the monster database, there is now a link to each item dropped by a specific monster, so you will now be able to easily find out more about a specific item when you browse the monsters.

We've also added some features to the item database. Firstly, we've made a small change to the way the item search works. If you search for an item and there is only 1 result, you will automatically be taken to item's page. So if you enter "abyssal whip" (or "abby whip") in the search bar, you will see the details about the items instead of the search results, which would obviously only have one item listed.

The monster database update also made it possible for us to list all monsters dropping a specific item. You will now see a list with all the monsters that drop a specific item on the item pages (look at this entry for an example).

That's all for now. Enjoy!

Hello again all! We have just added a new Warriors' Guild Guide! Many thanks to Syntax Error for this great guild guide!

Throughout the years, many guilds dedicated to different trades have been created. Among these guilds were the Rangers' Guild and Wizards' Guild, covering two out of the three styles of combat. A man named Harrallak Menarous decided to add the last piece to the triangle and created the Warriors' Guild, a guild dedicated to the art of melee combat. To read more about the Warriors' Guild, check out the new guide!

14-Aug-2007 – Hunter Skill Guide

Comment this update (5 comments)

Hello all; we've (finally) added a new Hunter skill guide! Many thanks to [M]ike and Chokelius for making this great guide!

Deep in some of the coldest and deepest areas of RuneScape lie strange monsters. These monsters are known to drop various furs, hides or tools that are valued by many players. There are many ways to trap these pesky creatures, varying from magical imp boxes to using a rented falcon to catch agile little kebbits.

In other news, our prayer guide has been updated to include the two new prayers, Chivalry and Piety, which can be unlocked after completing the Knights Wave training ground minigame after doing the King's Ransom.

30-Jul-2007 – King's Ransom Quest Guide

Comment this update (0 comments)

Hello all, today we've added a new quest guide for RuneScape's latest quest, King's Ransom

Life has been quiet at the Sinclair Mansion since you discovered the murderer... too quiet. So quiet, in fact, that the family has gone!

Suspicions are running high that the Sinclairs' recent departure is tied to the disappearance of King Arthur and his knights. But time is running short and clues are scarce, will you crack the case in time?

27-Jul-2007 – Recent downtime

Comment this update (0 comments)

Most of our users have probably experienced a major downtime the last few days on our forums, topsites, calculators and a few other sections of the site. We've been in touch with our web host, and it was most likely caused by a bug on the server we're using. We really apologize for this, but there was not much we could do and we had to wait until our web host fixed the problem. All sections except the topsites are up again. The topsites will be down for a few days to optimize the script and to fix some problems we've had with the system.

16-Jul-2007 – Quest Experience Guide

Comment this update (3 comments)

Hello all, today we have added a Quest Experience Guide. This guide will show you which quests you need to complete to gain experience in various skills.
Many thanks to Feed24 and sk84ever159 for contributions to this guide.

RuneScape holds many quests, each varying in difficulty, enjoyability and brutality, Some people will complete quests for the reward, or maybe to obtain that fancy quest point cape, but others favor the wonderful experience point rewards from quests, to help you see which quests will help you on your way with your desired skill we have a quest experience page.

15-Jul-2007 – RuneScape Downtime

Comment this update (0 comments)

Hello all, we are aware that RuneScape is currently offline, but we are NOT Jagex and have no control over this matter. So please do not message us asking questions.

Andrew Gower has said;
Our core hosting facility has lost it's internet connection. We are (urgently!) talking to the ISP now.
When this sort of thing happens it's normally because a router somewhere has died, so hopefully it won't take them too long to fix, but since it's a fault with a 3rd party system, now we've let them know all we can do is wait (and keep nagging them every 10 mins, heheh)
Please be patient, and we're sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks Andrew!

(Taken from his post on another large fansite, as he is unable to access his news management system on the RuneScape website)

Update
RuneScape is now back online, and working correctly.

07-Jul-2007 – Reporting Errors

Comment this update (0 comments)

It has come to my attention that some people have been reporting things in a very disorganised manner, this includes forum and item database reports. This makes our job very hard! If you wish to report an error in the item database, please do it correctly, entering all valid fields. The report submissions in the Item Database are not for you to contact us, if you wish to contact any of the staff then either use the forums or see the Global-RuneScape Team page. Concering forum reports, please make sure you report clearly, stating which rules have been broken. For more information see our Reporting Posts guide.

So next time you report, please take time to make sure your report is valid and that we'll be able to understand it and take action on it.

Lastly, to all of you that have reported correctly, on behalf of all the Global-RuneScape staff I would like to thank you, we have report systems to keep the site content up-to-date. As of this post, all submitted reports have been corrected.

07-Jul-2007 – Is Jagex being unfair to F2P players?

Comment this update (20 comments)

Hello all! It's time for another article in our Herald (finally!). An author who wishes to be anonymous has written an article about one of the never-ending discussions players talk about in every RuneScape-related forum: Is Jagex being unfair to F2P players?. After you've read the article, we invite you to share your opinion in this thread.

23-Jun-2007 – Grim Tales Quest Guide

Comment this update (1 comment)

Hello all, today we've added a guide for RuneScape's latest quest, Grim Tales.

"Once upon a time in a land far, far away..." Sylas, a collector of items both wondrous and unusual seeks out the latest additions to his trove with a somewhat unusual prize for the finder.

Terrors and towers await; fierce battles with giant beasts; striding boldly to rescue a dwarf in distress! Not a quest for the meek or faint-hearted, prepare yourself for a feast of fairytale fun with rewards a-plenty! The Brothers Grimm could never have foretold a tale such as this...

14-Jun-2007 – A Bundle of Updates!

Comment this update (1 comment)

Firstly today we've added a new mini-quest guide, the Mage Arena many thanks to Syntax Error for this great guide!

Kolodion, the master of battle magic, has set up an arena deep in the Wilderness.

Prove yourself worthy to this bloodthirsty wizard by surviving the trials of the Mage Arena and he will teach you spells capable of summoning the power of the gods themselves!

Secondly we've added a new skill training guide for the Mining skill! Many thanks to Anna Molly for this wonderful guide!

Lastly, Aliensvortex, Dave and myself have been clearing out some of the accepted submissions so keep an eye out for updated guides, these updates include new images, new content, more up to date information and generally a better standard of guides! Many thanks to all the people who submitted all these updates.

30-May-2007 – New Herald: Varrock (Museum)

Comment this update (11 comments)

Hello all! It's time for a new article in our Herald - and this week, the article is about the month's "big" update, which came after two weeks with no RuneScape updates, the new and shiny Varrock (and its new museum).

After you've read the article, feel free to post a comment on it in this topic, and as stated at the end of the article, everyone is welcome to write an article for the Herald! If there is something you would like to write about, feel free to let me know; your article might be published in the Herald next week!

24-May-2007 – New Herald: RuneScape 3

Comment this update (13 comments)

My apologies that this week's Herald is one day delayed, this is due to communicational errors beyond my control (Aliensvortex was gone when I had the article ready). This week, I dived into my brains (not literally) to find some theories about what Jagex will probably do with RuneScape 3. Good new for everyone who disliked my last article, this is not a "expressionistic literary experiment", just a pretty straight article, except that it is all theoretical as nobody even knows if there will be a RuneScape 3. Now read it!

17-May-2007 – Dream Mentor Quest Guide

Comment this update (2 comments)

Hello all! A quest guide for the newest quest in RuneScape, Dream Mentor, has just been added! Many thanks to Syntax Error for submitting guides for both quests in the Lunar series!

RuneScape is not the safest place to live - dragons, trolls, demons... dangerous and despicable monsters of all sorts roam free. In this quest, you must help a fellow adventurer that doesn't do so well against these threats. With perseverence and the magical help of the Moon Clan, there should be no monster that can't be beaten.

But is that really true? How about the monsters in your dreams? How about your own inescapable fears? How would you defeat them? Well, you'll soon find out as a tough and often bizarre quest awaits those of a strong will!

16-May-2007 – Herald Article - Lobsters

Comment this update (14 comments)

This week the Herald is back. And I am sure you will love it! I know it just looks like my computer has crashed and all paragraphs are mixed up - trust me, my computer works perfect. I could say this is a bad article, but that sounds so bad, so let me call it a "expressionistic literary experiment", about RuneScape. Enjoy reading it!

15-May-2007 – Olaf's Quest Guide

Comment this update (6 comments)

Today a guide for Olaf's Quest has been added to the site. Thanks goes to Syntax Error for writing this guide.

Poor Olaf Hradson. He has to live up to such expectations. His ancestors sailed all over the world, and now he has to go out and prove himself their equal. If only he could read a map... If only he could sail... If only he hadn't crashed! Can you help a depressed and soggy Fremennik regain his pride, and possibly the lost treasure of his grandfather?

13-May-2007 – The Golem Quest Guide

Comment this update (3 comments)

Today we have added a quest guide for The Golem. Many thanks to Thegreateddy for writing this guide.

Deep in the desert sand, the ruins of the once great city of Uzer, a lone survivor - an ancient clay golem - forever paces back and forth. It is badly damaged, and its mind cannot rest until it has completed the task for which it was created.

It is up to you to uncover the secret of the lost city, and add the final chapter to a story begat amidst the violence of the Third Age.

04-May-2007 – Slayer Equipment Guide

Comment this update (6 comments)

Hello everyone! A new Slayer Equipment Guide has just been added to the site! This is a guide designed to show you the best equipment to wear for whichever price range you are in. This guide will also show you what the best armor to wear while meleeing (against melee), meleeing (against mage), ranging, and maging. Many thanks to Lil McGinley for this great guide!

01-May-2007 – Real-world trading website ads

Comment this update (2 comments)

After RuneScape's announcement about real-world trading, several people have messaged us asking whether Global RuneScape is one of those so-called "corrupt" fansites or not, because they had seen advertisements to some of these sites.

We would like to make it clear that we do not manage which ads are shown, because we are using a third party advertising network to display the ads. However, that doesn't mean that we ignore the problem. We have the ability to filter our ads, and we are certainly doing so. Currently, we have banned more than 100 real-world trading sites from the ad network, but there are still a few new sites that are coming regularly.

Other fansites have stated that they can't remove the ads because of technical restrictions or because they need them to keep the site running. This is certainly not the case. Although we would earn more money by showing them, we earn enough money to keep the site without them. Global RuneScape is not a commercial web site with the aim to earn as much as possible, and therefore, we see absolutely no need to keep these ads.

If you see advertisements for money shops, please contact us or send me a PM with the ad's address. If you have more questions, feel free to reply to this topic. :)

30-Apr-2007 – Enakhra's Lament - 100 quest guides!

Comment this update (6 comments)

Hello everyone. We are still striving to add all the quest guides, but we've finally reached a new milestone with our 100th quest guide, the Enakhra's Lament quest guide!

Lazim the sculptor has a sad tale to tell - his days of making art are over, and now all he can do is carp at adventurers as they make a statue for him in the desert. Although, isn't just south of the Bandit Camp an odd place to be putting up a statue?

Help Lazim out with his artistic endeavours, and learn more as this quest goes deeper into the history of RuneScape than you might expect.

25-Apr-2007 – Another Slice of H.A.M. Quest Guide

Comment this update (1 comment)

Hey everyone. Today we uploaded a quest guide for Another Slice of H.A.M.. Many thanks to Andyy for this guide.

The dwarves are building a new underground rail link between their city of Keldagrim and the cave goblins' Dorgesh-Kaan, but work is being held up by the discovery of ancient goblin artefacts, and they need the help of a qualified archaeologist. Helping them out should be simple enough - unless you stumble upon another H.A.M. plot against the city.

If there are any mistakes/errors in this guide please feel free to report them in this forum.

22-Apr-2007 – Cold War Quest Guide

Comment this update (6 comments)

Hi everyone. We've just added a new quest guide for the Cold War quest! Many thanks to Chokelius, known as EyeS in our forums, for this great quest guide!

At the Ardougne Zoo, one of the zookeepers has become a bit preoccupied by penguins. In fact, he's downright paranoid about them. He needs your help to observe their habits on the iceberg in the Lunar Sea. What begins as a peaceful bird-watching expedition opens a new world of espionage and bad musicians.

17-Apr-2007 – Horror From the Deep

Comment this update (4 comments)

Hello all! We know that there haven't been many updates lately. We've worked a lot on the item database, and unfortunately we have received very few submissions. But we've just added a new Horror From the Deep quest guide, and we really hope that other people will help us by submitting more guides.

Our quest guides section is still not completed, so there are still a bunch of old quests that don't have a quest guide yet. A complete list of needed quest guides can be found here, so feel free to write a guide if you're going to do one of those quests. Writing a quest guide might seem hard to do, but writing a simple walkthrough with a few images and list of requirements is very easy, and in order to have a fair amount of updates in the future, we need our users' help to improve the site!

01-Apr-2007 – RuneScape 3 Trailer!!

Comment this update (14 comments)

The trailer was an Aprils Fools' joke, and Jagex has never cooperated with any fansite, unfortunately. The trailer was a picture of a trailer with the RuneScape logo on it. You can still follow the links below to see it.

Hello everyone! Jagex has recently decided to start cooperating with some fan sites to bring the fan sites more unique content, thus also improving the community of RuneScape. They see this as a good way to promote the game, like other games such as World of Warcraft and Guild Wars have done.

Global RuneScape is one of the fan sites that they are going to share information and content with, and today, they just gave us access to the unique RuneScape 3 Trailer! Although the game's sounds and music is not done, we can already see that the game will have some amazing graphics! So why wait, check out the new RuneScape 3 Trailer!!

30-Mar-2007 – What Lies Below

Comment this update (1 comment)

Hi everyone, we know that the number of new quest guides lately has been way too low. This is not something we want to continue, so we've just added a quest guide for the newest quest in RuneScape, What Lies Below! All items related to the quest have also been added to the item database.

A travelling trader has been stranded south of Varrock after his cart was attacked by local outlaws. He needs the help of a hero to recover his lost documents, but that's not all...

The Varrock Palace Secret Guard (VPSG) are on the trail of treacherous dealings with the Monks of Zamorak. Will you be able to help the VPSG and uncover what lies below?

25-Mar-2007 – Item database updates

Comment this update (0 comments)

As we announced on Tuesday, some of the database's features were not finished and could not be published. Today, a new feature to compare items has just been added! With this tool, you can compare two items' stats. Obviously, it is pointless to compare the stats of items you can't equip, so only equippable items can be compared. A link to this feature has been added in the item database index, and there is also a link in the item details for all equippable items.

In other news, our item database has now more than 700 items; which means that more than 60 items have been added since the database's release. We would like to remind you that everyone can submit item information in the forums, and if the item already exists, there is a link below the item details to submit an update for that item.

20-Mar-2007 – Global RuneScape 2 Years + Item Database!

Comment this update (21 comments)

Hello everyone! Today, it's exactly 2 years since the creation of Global RuneScape! As many of you may know, Global RuneScape was originally started as a small HTML-based site running on an InvisionFree forum. For months, the site was growing very slowly, getting about 40-50 daily visitors.

Today, two years after its creation, the site is running on a powerful system to manage the guides, and we've added many advanced feature, such as the Advanced Calculators that were added March 20th last year.

Of course, we don't want to just post a silly announcement without adding anything. Therefore, we've decided to publish the Item Database, which we have been working on since October last year! It contains detailed information about the items in RuneScape, a powerful search feature and a lot of other useful information!

Obviously, the database is not completed yet, and we really need your help to expand it. If there is a missing item that you have information about, feel free to submit it! Lastly, all the planned features have not been implemented because our deadline came too quickly – more exciting stuff will soon be added to the database, so stay tuned!

14-Mar-2007 – New Herald Article

Comment this update (11 comments)

Hello all! A new article has been added to the Global RuneScape Herald. The RuneScape rules are, as most active players know, very controversial. Therefore, our Herald editor has written an article about this issue: Is Jagex too strict? After you've read the article, feel free to post a comment on the article, or share your own thoughts and ideas.

07-Mar-2007 – Herald article - German Beta Report

Comment this update (13 comments)

Hello all! As a "hidden" update which has not been announced on the main page of RuneScape, the German version of RuneScape is now open to everyone after three weeks in the Closed Beta stage. Therefore, our editor has written a short article about the German version of RuneScape. After you've read it, feel free to comment the article and discuss the German version of RuneScape in this topic.

We would also like to remind you that everyone can write their own article for the Herald, as mentioned in this announcement. :)

03-Mar-2007 – TOGRC Has Folded

Comment this update (25 comments)

On behalf of the official Global Runescape clan, I am sad to annouce the Official Global RuneScape clan has folded. The clan is no longer affiliated with Global RuneScape in any way and is now named Wrath of Elegance. We are now no longer the official clan of Global Runescape. This was suggested by many people. Now it happened... Sorry Global Runescape, I am not leaving, but the clan is no longer affiliated with Global RuneScape.

However we hope that members of the clan will still stay around here at Global RuneScape and its forums.

For those whom cant find us, our new link is http://woeclan.com/forum/index.php?

28-Feb-2007 – Skills: How balanced are they?

Comment this update (6 comments)

Hello everyone! We've just added a new article to the Herald. This week's article is written by Polaki, and is about one of the most important factors in the game; the skills: How Balanced Are They? We hope you'll enjoy the article; many thanks to Polaki for writing this great article!

Also, if you want to write an article, feel free to do so and PM Aliensvortex with it. We will not add poorly written articles, so be sure to take your time when your write it. If we add it, all credits will go to you and it will be announced like all the other articles. That's all for now; we hope you enjoy this week's article. After you've read the article, feel free to post any comments or thoughts you may have in this topic.

26-Feb-2007 – Chat Updates

Comment this update (6 comments)

Hello all, today we've put quite a 'useful' update, the Chat Applet has been updated. Therefore now, to use the chat room you will be required to login (Using your Forum account). This has been put in place for two reasons, the first that we've recently had a lot of people joining the chat room and either spamming our channel or other channels on the network, this has angered many of the network's operators, therefore we had to change something before we we're removed from the network. Secondly, being logged in to use the chat room means upon connection to the network you will automatically be known as your forum username, making it easier for other Global-RuneScape admins and members to recognise you. This should solve any existing problems with the chat.

Also on another note, we apologize for what seems as lack of updates to the site. This is because we are doing a lot of 'Back End' work, including control panels for content management with the website and general updates to older parts of the site.
Lastly, to keep the website up-to-date we really need your help! If you can, please submit any missing data, for more information please see our Submissions/Updates forum.

21-Feb-2007 – New Herald Article

Comment this update (5 comments)

Hello everyone, a new Herald article has just been published! This article is about a widely known problem in RuneScape's economy; the RuneScape inflation: can it ever be stopped? After you've read the article, feel free to post any comments or thoughts you have.

20-Feb-2007 – Tower of Life quest guide

Comment this update (1 comment)

A quest guide for the newest quest in RuneScape, Tower of Life, has just been added! Many thanks to Gamer H for this guide!

The construction of a mysterious tower is almost complete, but the builders working on it have gone on strike. Losing patience, the alchemists that hired them are looking for anybody to help them. When the world of magic and the world of logic combine you can expect dangerous results, but a true adventurer would cherish such things... wouldn't they?

14-Feb-2007 – New Herald Article

Comment this update (0 comments)

Hello all! We've just added a new article to the Herald. Its name would probably explain what it is about: Sq'irks, and changes. The article is evidently about the latest RuneScape update, A sq'irk a day... We hope you will enjoy this article!

In other news, users trying to access our Shades of Mort'ton quest guide have recently only seen a "404: Quest guide not found" error. A backup had to be used to restore the site after the recent site downtime, and the last backup was taken before we added this guide. The guide has now been re-added. No other guides were affected. :)

14-Feb-2007 – Sorry for downtime!

Comment this update (11 comments)

We here at Global Runescape aplogize for the recent downtime of up to 2 days. The reason is mainly unknown, but we are leading to believe it was an error on the part of the Lunarpages webhosting company whom host Global Runescape. We aplogize, and will try and ensure this will not happen again...

This was server error that we had no control over, and we really apologize. We hope this will not happen again, but because this was beyond our control, there is nothing we can do.

Everything should be up, but if you experience problems, please let us know as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Global Runescape Staff

11-Feb-2007 – Shades of Mort'ton quest guide

Comment this update (0 comments)

A new Shades of Mort'ton quest guide has just been added to Global RuneScape!

Mort Myre's south border has been breached, and a path towards a strange town called 'Mort'ton' has been found. Strangers return from such visits with tales of the 'Afflicted' and shadowy creatures who jealously guard their tomb treasure.

04-Feb-2007 – New Herald Article

Comment this update (3 comments)

Hello all! After a few weeks without any updates in the Herald, we've finally added a new article! This week's Herald article is about clans: Why do we join them? What do they add to the game? A new Observatory Quest guide has just been added to Global RuneScape!

The observatory in south west Ardougne has been ransacked by a family of nearby goblins. Can you help the professors to get the required items and rebuild it?

26-Jan-2007 – New Clan Server!

Comment this update (3 comments)

Some people may have realized the major downtime on Global Runescape today. Aliensvortex found out it was the clan, so he told me to switch the server of the clan. The clan has been transferred to a new server. The domain will still be grsclan.com, but the forums are now located at http://grsclan.com/forum/

Edit: grsclan.com will automatically forward to the forums. :)

25-Jan-2007 – Recruitment Drive Quest Guide!

Comment this update (2 comments)

Today, we've added a guide for Recruitment Drive! Many thanks to Chokelius for this great guide!

The Temple Knights of Saradomin, a secret organisation founded many centuries ago by Saradomin himself, are currently looking to expand their ranks with some new blood.

After the successful thwarting of the Black Knights' plans to take over Asgarnia, and with the personal recommendation of Sir Amik, you have now been offered the chance to apply for membership in this organisation... but are you up to the challenge?

14-Jan-2007 – Two New Quest Guides!

Comment this update (2 comments)

Today we have uploaded two new quest guides to the site!

Thanks to Chokelius for submitting a quest guide for Making History.

A secluded outpost has served the City of Ardougne for generations, playing stage to many exceptional events. It's current occupant wants to employ your skills to construct it's true history before time runs out and history itself is wiped away!

Thanks to Dave for writing a guide for Eagle's Peak.

The Ardougne Zoo is always looking for new specimens, but one of their anticipated new attractions - a ferret from the north - has been proving elusive.

One of the Zoo's more eccentric freelance specimen hunters is reported to be on the case, but after setting out for the far western reaches, somewhere between the Piscatoris Fishing Colony and the Tree Gnome Stronghold, nothing more has been heard from him.

Will you be able to use your skills as a Hunter to track him down? What else will you discover at the mountain known as Eagles' Peak?

09-Jan-2007 – New Herald Article

Comment this update (5 comments)

We're too late once again, and I really apologize. We'll try to continue publishing the articles on Sunday again, but many of our staff members, including me and Gamer H have been quite busy lately and unable to make an article within the deadline. Anyway, we've published a new article in the Global RuneScape Herald today! We hope you'll enjoy our latest article, which is about a clan/group chat system in RuneScape, and how this may eventually affect the game.

02-Jan-2007 – New article in the Herald

Comment this update (0 comments)

There was no article on the Christmas' Eve, and we did not publish another Herald issue on Sunday. Well, the Herald is not dead, and today we've added the article that should have been added two days ago. Sorry about the delay. I hope you'll enjoy the first article of 2007 anyway! We would also love to wish you all a happy new year, and we hope there will be just as many good updates in RuneScape this year!

23-Dec-2006 – Animal Magnetism

Comment this update (3 comments)

Today, we have written a guide for Animal Magnetism.

Draynor Manor has a new resident and, adventurers rejoice, she is a damsel in distress. Far from being Sleeping Beauty, she finds the Manor's beds not to her liking and is suffering from insomniac nights. If you fancy yourself able to aid Ava in her search for a good night's sleep, who knows what the budding scientist will produce as a reward?

17-Dec-2006 – New Herald Article - The History of TOGRC

Comment this update (11 comments)

Hello again! We've been very busy this week, and we've been unable to add any new guides or update the site lately. There have been many important errors that we've had to fix, causing a significant downtime in the beginning of this week. As you may know, the clan has been restarted and we've spent lots of time on it in addition to the main site. Speaking of the clan, that's exactly what this week's Herald article is about! This is the longest article in the Herald so far, and includes a brief history of the clan, how it was founded and an interview with one of the clan's leaders, Brian1775. There's probably a lot in this article that many of our clan members didn't know about, and we hope it will be an interesting read for all our users too! Please check this topic if you wish to comment this article!

In other news, we've added a new Barbarian Outpost guide to the Other Areas section of our atlas. Many thanks to Sk84ever159 for this guide!

13-Dec-2006 – Recent Site Downtime

Comment this update (2 comments)

We are very sorry on the recent downtime of Global Runescape. There are a few problems that Aliensvortex will try to fix as soon as possible. Please do not think we are closing as that is far from the truth. Also for those of you who are wondering, yes this is the same thing with the clan. We are sorry for this, and will try to fix it as soon as possible.

10-Dec-2006 – New Herald Article

Comment this update (0 comments)

Hello everyone! It is December and soon Christmas time, and many RuneScape players will obviously wonder what this year's Christmas event will be! Each time the holiday events are released, countless of players are discussing the same controversial topic: Should rares be kept tradeable? Some players share Jagex' opinions; tradable discountinued items spoil the game's fun. Other players would rather say that these rare items add more variation to the marketplace. After you've read the article, we invite you to discuss the article and post your own opinions.

10-Dec-2006 – TOGRC is Back

Comment this update (12 comments)

06-Dec-2006 – Clan Downtime

Comment this update (28 comments)

For those of you who don't know, Invision Power Board released their new forum software, IPS Community, today. The clan forums were being upgraded by the Invision Board staff, when some technical difficulties were met.

We are not exactly sure what the problems are, or how to fix them. We will be trying our hardest to get the clan forums back up, but be prepared for a wait.

Please stand by while these problems are being worked on. Hopefully the clan will be back soon, but we can't promise anything. Brian is contacting the IPB staff as I am posting this announcement.

For the time being, clan members, just continue your discussions here. The events have been canceled until further notice, and there will be problem with missing them.

Over the next few days I will be talking with Aliensvortex and Brian to try and find a solution to this problem if worst comes to worst and we need to create an entire new forums.

*Update* - The clan forums are back and running with the new software. There are a few problems that we need to fix, and also mods and skins need to be reinstalled. The forums should be ready soon though.

I will keep this updated with any news on the topic.

Howdy! Our sixth Herald article has just been published, and this is also our first interview in the Herald. Last week was our official clan's birthday, and as this is our official clan, it can't go unnoticed! Therefore, we have interviewed one of the clan's High Council members, Sk84ever159. Due to obvious reasons, there is no dedicated topic for comments about this interview, but we hope that you will enjoy reading the article anyway! Many thanks to [M]ike for this great interview.

02-Dec-2006 – Guide to Essence Running

Comment this update (5 comments)

Hello everyone. Today, we've added a new Guide to Essence Running to Global RuneScape! Many thanks to Syntax Error for writing this great guide!

Essence running is a way to quickly level up the Runecrafting skill. The crafter, usually a high leveled character, takes a large amount of noted rune essence. He/she waits at the one of the Runecrafting altars, usually air or law, while other characters, the essence runners, take un-noted rune essence to the crafter. The crafter then gives the runner money or runes and noted rune essence in exchange for un-noted rune essence. The more runners participating, the quicker the experience builds up. If you want to know more about essence running, and its benefits, then feel free to check out our new guide!

We've just added 2 new mining area guides! The first guide is a guide for the Skeleton Coal Mining Area, a mining area in the Wilderness with a lot of coal rocks. Our second guide is for the Rune Rock Mining Spot. Located deep in the Wilderness, this is the only place where free players can mine their Runite ores! Many thanks to Thegreateddy for writing both guides!

This week's article, written by [M]ike, is just as good as all the other articles. So take your time to read the latest article; The Knowledge Base: Killing fan sites? After you've read the article, feel free to post any comments, thoughts or ideas you might have in this topic!

In other news, a Heroes' Guild Basement map has been added to the Dungeon maps section and the Heroes' Guild guide. This map was also made by [M]ike. Thanks!

Hello all! We know it's not sunday yet (in fact, the last article was added 2 days ago), but with the new Hunter skill, we decided to add an extra article today. This article, Hunter Skill: Review, is, as the title suggests, about the newest skill. Don't worry, won't affect future Herald articles, so be prepared for yet another article on Sunday.
