Summoning

Introduction

Summoning is an intricate skill allowing you to call upon a vast array of creatures to aid you with anything from fighting to skilling and also gives you the ability to own pets ranging from dogs to dragons. To begin the skill, the Wolf Whistle quest must be completed yielding 275 gold charms and basic information about Summoning.

The main way to train Summoning is by making pouches which require charms, spirit shards and secondary ingredients. Depending on the creature you wish to summon, different charms, amounts of shards and ingredients are needed. Once a pouch has been made the pouch can be used to summon a familiar to aid you, each with their own unique abilities.

Making Pouches

Making pouches can be difficult at first but there are only a few simple steps needed to make them.

  • A Charm
  • A Pouch
  • Spirit Shards
  • A secondary ingredient

To begin with, charms are needed. The most common way of getting these is by killing monsters but they can also be gotten from thieving chests in Dorgesh-Kaan and as a reward from Soul Wars. In addition to the basic charms (Gold, Green, Crimson, Blue) there are several charms which count as secondary ingredients. These charms include Abyssal charms which are gotten as a drop from Abyssal monsters, Void charms which can be purchased with Pest Control Points and Obsidian charms which are gotten as a drop from Tzhaar monsters.

Shards and pouches can be purchased from any summoning shops. The three summoning shops are located in Taverley, Gu’Tanoth and Mort Myre.

Secondary ingredients are most often bought from the Grand Exchange but can also be collected in various locations depending on the ingredient.

Now you need to find a summoning obelisk. Infuse the pouch with the obelisk and then choose the pouch you need to make.

Making Scrolls

Scrolls are made from summoning pouches and for each pouch used you will receive 10 scrolls. Once again, infuse the pouch via an obelisk but this time go to the Scroll Creation tab and choose the scroll you want to make. Scrolls are then used to allow your familiar to use their special attack.

Summoning a familiar

To summon a familiar simply right-click the pouch and click summon. This will cost several summoning points with more points needed for higher level familiars. While a familiar is summoned, your summoning points will be drained, similar to prayer. These points can be recharged at any obelisk. Each familiar lasts a certain amount of time but can be renewed by summoning another pouch. You can only summon one familiar at a time.

Pets

In addition to being able to summon familiars, Summoning also allows you to have pets. These pets can be gotten in a variety of ways starting with dogs from the Pet Shops located in Yanille or Taverley to baby dragons received from dragon eggs.
